BIO

Erik P. Carter, born in Leominster, Massachusetts, is a figurative painter currently residing and working in Boston, Massachusetts. By day, he works in the field of vaccine research, his professional training being largely in virology, but, in his spare time, he pursues his passion for figurative oil painting.

Carter draws considerable inspiration in the great Baroque Italian master Caravaggio and the 20th Century painter Francis Bacon, as well as modern painters like Roberto Ferri, Jenny Saville, Nicola Samori, and Adrian Ghenie. His depictions of the homoerotic nude human form very often reflect a state of quiet, vulnerable isolation, occasionally drawing on themes from religious history.
